Our campaigns for this independent clean electricity supplier have helped double the company’s turnover year-on-year since we began working together in 2007. National newspapers, TV and radio now regularly feature Green Energy UK, from its customer case studies to comment on government initiatives. We also manage the company’s social media, and we wrote the winning entry in the Cisco Customer Kings competition, helping Green Energy UK beat hundreds of companies to the title and a £5,000 prize.

We are proud to have launched a concept to journalists and MPs that could dramatically improve the way Europe sources its energy. We organised an event at the House of Commons for the Claverton Energy Research Group to explain how a Supergrid could be ready to deliver all of Europe’s electricity within 20 years and at no extra cost. Our media campaign secured more than £100,000 worth of coverage, including a double-page illustrated guide in The Times and a half-hour special on Radio 4. The coverage continues, with the Supergrid now a regular talking point in the media.

We were brought on board by Dr Matt Prescott and the Department for Energy and Climate Change (DECC) to promote E-Day, the world’s first coordinated and measured attempt by an entire community to reduce its energy consumption. It took place on the Isles of Scilly, and our role was to engage local residents in taking part and to let the rest of the UK know about E-Day.
Our first step to capture public imagination was to brand this an experiment. Blanket coverage in the local media got residents involved. We also secured back-to-back BBC Breakfast TV broadcasts live from the Isles of Scilly on E-Day itself and on the following day to announce the results of the experiment. We arranged interviews and coverage with the News at One, the Today Programme, PM, BBC News 24, BBC America and across the national newspapers. E-Day also sparked a special programme on BBC World Service. All in all, this equated to over £1m of coverage.
Dr Matt Prescott says: “Substance PR did a fantastic job raising awareness of E-Day and the Isles of Scilly Earth Summit amongst target journalists and media outlets. With the benefit of Substance PR’s help, advice and contacts, E-Day is now firmly established in the UK and has been able to reach local, national and international audiences in ways that have opened up many new and exciting opportunities.”
