30-second guide to Substance PR
Substance PR was founded in 2003 by Claire Adam to promote people, companies and organisations doing great things.
Cat Stevens helped Claire come up with the company name after she read a Rolling Stone article describing him as “a man of substance”.
Substance PR’s first client was Jamie Catto, double Grammy award-nominated filmmaker, musician and co-founder of legendary dance act Faithless. Jamie’s 1 Giant Leap music project was the first album released as a DVD, featuring collaborations with the likes of Dennis Hopper, Kurt Vonnegut and Michael Stipe.
Keegan Wilson joined Substance PR in 2006.
Our creative ideas, eye-catching campaigns and awards have contributed to the success of renewable electricity supplier Green Energy UK, increasing the company’s turnover from £2m to over £6m since 2007.
We doubled the number of footballers playing in Pitch Invasion’s five-a-side leagues and we created and launched the company’s first women’s league by bringing Chelsea Ladies on board for publicity.
Speaking about us turning a £4k budget into £1m of TV, radio and print coverage for the Isles of Scilly’s world-first community ‘switch-off’, event organiser Dr Matt Prescott says: “With Substance PR’s help, advice and contacts, E-Day is now firmly established in the UK and this has opened up many new and exciting opportunities.”
We organise all kinds of events. For the Claverton Energy Research Group, we took a £1500 budget, booked the House of Commons and invited MPs and journalists to hear plans for a Europe-wide renewable energy Supergrid and generated more than £100,000 worth of press coverage in The Times, Independent, Telegraph, trade media, and a half-hour special on BBC Radio 4.
Clients get real value from working with us. Jamie Catto says: “Substance has demonstrated endless enthusiasm, creativity and professionalism whilst working to develop media and music industry partnerships on my behalf. I am impressed at their refreshing, proactive and tenacious approach to making things happen. Substance is also fun to work with, whilst being totally committed to doing a first class job.”
